The brand was established in 1906 by Alfred Teves, who started by providing automotive accessories and later expanded his business to include piston rings and braking systems for leading car companies such as Audi, Hansa, and Wanderer.

In 1921, ATE rebranded its logo to include the letters ATE with blue packaging, becoming synonymous with high-quality products in the automotive industry. ATE brake systems were optimized for motorsport in 1934, and by 1958, mass production of brake disks began at ATE facilities in Germany.
