Beru is a top brand in Europe for diesel cold-start technology. Despite starting as a spark plug company in 1912, Beru became a leader in diesel cold-start technology only 17 years later. The company was founded by Julius Behr and Albert Ruprecht, whose last names formed the company name “BeRu”. The headquarters of the company are located in Ludwigsburg, Germany.
In 1929, Beru developed and began producing the world’s first glow plugs. At this time, Beru’s research and development of ignition and diesel cold-start technology were at their peak.
Just a year later, in 1930, Beru introduced a bipolar glow plug with replaceable wire filament to the market. Beru was directly responsible for its research and development.
For the next four decades, Beru steadily grew and became synonymous with high-quality ignition components and diesel cold-start technology. In 1975, Beru’s rapid glow plug shortened preheating time to only 20 seconds.
During the 2000s, Beru had a very successful period.
It completed research and development of several innovative technologies that improved the automotive industry, including the glow control unit, pressure sensor glow plug technology, ceramic glow plugs, iridium spark plug technology, and ultra plus titan spark plugs.
In 2005, BorgWarner became a major shareholder, and in 2009, it gained full ownership of Beru. Three years later, Beru was sold to Federal-Mogul. At the beginning of 2020, Beru took back sales and distribution of its products.
Many European car manufacturers recommend using Beru products for the best engine performance, fuel consumption, and emissions. Beru’s innovative spirit and investments in research and development of next-generation ignition systems make it one of the leading manufacturers of ignition systems in Europe.
