Bernhard Pierburg founded the Pierburg company in Berlin in 1909 as a steel trading company. In 1928, the company began producing carburetors and quickly became the sole supplier for German and international automotive companies.
In 1986, the Rheinmetall Group acquired Pierburg, and the company has been a part of it ever since. Pierburg and its subsidiaries diversified their product line in 1989 with the introduction of vacuum pumps for the automotive industry.
The following year, Carbureibar SA, which was a part of Pierburg, began producing exhaust valves and throttle valves, with Pierburg becoming the sole shareholder in 1991.
However, the introduction of the Euro 2 environmental standard in 1993 resulted in the rapid replacement of carburetors with direct fuel injection systems, which caused significant losses for Pierburg.
To adapt, Pierburg began manufacturing Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valves (EGR) in 1994, a product for which the company is still famous today.
Two years later, the company started manufacturing the Automatic Recirculation Valve (ARV), a technology widely used today to reduce emissions in passenger vehicles.
Today, Pierburg is renowned for its quality components, including fuel supply systems, air supply systems, electric valves, emission control, water and oil pumps, exhaust gas flaps, tools, and test devices, among others. The company’s mission is to provide OE-quality products to its customers while minimizing the environmental impact of both the manufacturing process and the parts used.
